Labour, LibDem, Green and some Conservative MPs voted to legalise self-abortion up to the point of birth - because ‘wimmin’s rights’ and in particular the rights of women to have control over their own bodies, according to Green MP Carla Denyer.
I have never understood the “right to choose” argument. Women have every right to choose to become impregnated or not. If they can’t exercise that right responsibly, why would anyone believe they could exercise the “right” to kill another human responsibly?
Well of course there are plenty of cases where women are raped and who subsequently get pregnant. In such instances, these women must have a right to choose whether they wish to terminate an early term (First Trimester preferably) pregnancy.
I’m not sure what definition of “plenty” might be in use here.
I did a web search and one statistic is that it’s < 1% of all abortions, or about 0.2 per 1,000 women, for about 2,500 in England and Wales in 2022.
Abortions increased by 35% between 2012 and 2022, whereas reported rape increased by 330% over the same period (for reasons apparently unknown and unknowable). I might be inclined to believe that if rape were a driver of abortion, their rates of increase would be commensurate.
Just spitballing here, but my guess is that the number of cases in which a woman needs 9 months to realize she has been raped is probably pretty small, so extending the eligibility for abortion up to birth doesn’t seem to be logically related to rape. If rape is a justification for abortion, I think those cases would be easy to identify fairly early on. For the remaining >99% of abortions, the activity leading to conception was the opportunity to exercise the sacred choice, which was evidently irresponsibly squandered. To paper over recklessness with murder seems somehow amoral.
It would seem that UK legislators might more profitably deal with the root cause of rape and its astonishing increase in the last 15 years rather than wasting time accommodating the feckless abusers of reproductive prerogatives.
In the US, the natural end point of an abortion-venerating culture is "medical assistance in dying" or "physician assisted suicide". If you can be all happy about baby-slaughter, you'll be even happier about the killing off of tiresome old sick people.
Keep in mind when evil Goliath takes us to war, all these reliable wedge issues will always be played out as cover for their crimes to keep the proles arguing amongst themselves.
We have the same thinking in so many US states. Forgive me if I've said this before but the motto of these women is "give me convenience or give me death".
I have cousins who were adopted in the early 70s prior to Roe v Wade. Unwanted babies were adopted out. Now they're simply snuffed. My cousins would not be here if conceived out of wedlock today. And infertile couples go shopping for Chinese babies because the American babies are being used for pharma research.
I see that her tweet got a pile-on of condemnation led by yourself and Kathy Gyngell. The way the brains of such leftists work is a mystery to me, that they can think their supposed “right to control their own bodies” nullifies the right to life of the unborn child. Selfish, narcissist, unfeeling, cruel …
Good news!
Am proud of the UK for a change.

How long before organisations are offering assisted self-abortions for profit.

And it certainly looks like we're going to war.
Imagine if they held a war and no-one turned up?
We can dream of that, or pray if that's your thing.

Welcome to the UK.
