DeSmog, The Guardian And Caroline Lucas Want Ofcom To Censor 'Climate Denial' At GB News
DeSmog says:
A majority of GB News hosts attacked climate action on the channel in 2022, while one in three spread climate science denial, a DeSmog analysis can reveal.
Broadcaster GB News has faced criticism for spreading anti-green messages to millions of viewers since its launch in June 2021. GB News CEO Angelos Frangopoulos has previously defended the platform by claiming that it presents “multiple sides of the climate debate”.
However, an in-depth DeSmog analysis of GB News’s output from 2022 reveals a pattern of hostility to climate action, including outright climate science denial.
DeSmog reviewed dozens of YouTube video clips of 31 GB News hosts over a 12 month period. Our analysis found that at least 16 hosts (52 percent) attacked on air the UK’s climate policies, including its net zero target.
‘Hostility to climate action and outright climate science denial’ are the crimes which DeSmog finds GB News presenters to be guilty of and they want ofcom to investigate and punish them. After all, they found Mark Steyn, former GB News presenter, guilty of spreading ‘misinformation’ about the Covid vaccines, so now climate alarmists want them to do the same with climate ‘misinformation’:
Communications regulator Ofcom has repeatedly found GB News to have broken broadcasting rules with false claims about Covid vaccines, and is probing the channel’s use of MPs as hosts. But, until now, GB News’s climate coverage has largely evaded scrutiny.
“GB News prioritises polemicists over journalists,” Nicolson told DeSmog. “Many of GB News’s broadcasts pollute public discourse with right-wing propaganda.
“There is an urgent need for Ofcom now to act. We do not want to go further down the American Fox News route of unchallenged, often scientifically illiterate, culture war propaganda spewing into our homes.”
Yuh, right, we don’t want ‘climate denial’ spewing into people’s homes. Not when when climate alarmists, the mainstream media and the state itself have had a virtually unchallenged monopoly on spewing climate alarmist propaganda and pseudoscience into people’s homes for 40 odd years now. It just ain’t right.
The Guardian picks up on the DeSmog garbage and emphasises ‘extreme weather/climate change link denial’ at GB News, as evidenced by presenters’ scepticism of the July 18-19th 2022 40C heatwave in the UK and its alleged connection to ‘climate breakdown’:
Summer 2022 brought a record-breaking heatwave, with temperatures in the UK passing 40C (104F) for the first time. The Met Office, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the World Weather Attribution service all concluded climate breakdown made the heatwave more likely.
But when the Met Office warned high temperatures were linked to the climate crisis, the GB News presenter and sometime priest Calvin Robinson accused the official forecaster of “alarmism”. “Manmade climate change, I don’t buy it,” he said on 16 July. “Because how much of an impact do we really make if we’re talking about carbon levels?”
On 21 July, the host Bev Turner called heatwave warnings “fearmongering” in order to “facilitate state control over your life”. “Green issue propaganda” was, she claimed, “part of a plan to register us all to a biometric ID and a social credit score system that’ll tell you when you can and can’t leave the house for the sake of the planet”.
Caroline Lucas is quoted in response to DeSmog’s findings:
Responding to the findings, the Green MP, Caroline Lucas, said: “Climate denial isn’t just factually inaccurate – it’s also deeply dangerous and puts at risk all our society-wide efforts to tackle the climate emergency.
Climate denial is ‘deeply dangerous’ according to Brighton belle Lucas. Personally, I think she is deeply disturbed and is promoting a genuinely deeply dangerous policy based on extremely poor ‘science’ and evidence. That goes for so many of the Net Zero climate cultists. They are an unhinged menace to society and civilisation and their knee jerk censorship reaction to growing criticism just proves how fanatical and misguided they are.
Ofcom says:
An Ofcom spokesperson told DeSmog: “In line with freedom of expression, broadcasters are free to broadcast programmes about climate change from a range of different perspectives.
“Under our rules, however, any scientifically unsubstantiated claims must be handled with care and put properly into context – for example, by receiving adequate challenge – to ensure audiences are not misled.”
Hmm. I didn’t see them pointing out in summer 2022 the unchallenged “scientifically unsubstantiated claims” spewed out by the MSM, the Met Office and World Weather Attribution regarding the supposed attribution of the 18th-19th July flash in the pan heatwave in the UK.
