The high pressure cell tries its best to assert itself over the UK but gets squeezed out by a powerful jet stream in the latest run. But this now looks interesting for late November. The jet stream is way south, pounding Spain and southern France, allowing cold Arctic air to spread across the UK. So, we might be looking at some serious cold weather by November 21st and not much wind, which means the UK will be reliant upon fossil fuel generated electricity.

The European-wide anticyclone in 2010 lasted for weeks. It was so cold that my car windscreen washer froze up. I had to stop every few miles driving from Inverness to Glasgow to wipe the road salt away.

Have they rescinded the hosepipe bans yet?! 🤣

The early autumn warmth doesn't mean we are out of the woods re winter energy supplies... autumn 1962 wasn't particularly chilly before the deep freeze set in... (though 1963 was also at the tail end of a solar cycle - though current cycle is weak, we're in an active phase).

Here in Scotland we look forward to being blasted with hot air (not the kind that's talked in climate summits of course) until mid-November.

Excellent, thank you! Will share with all my woke friends. So, that will be no-one then! I have none in my life any more, thank god! Looking forward to the amnesty. Dog walking in this wet is not fun!
