I’ve had a few people unsubscribe recently because of posts I’ve put out and I subsequently received notifications of disabled emails. That’s fair enough. But I’m also noticing that my subscriber count is mysteriously decreasing, even though I’m not getting notifications of disabled emails. How does that work then? It’s all too reminiscent of the bad old days of Twitter when my followers kept getting mysteriously culled; often when I would gain a follower or two, another couple would be bumped off, resulting in no net increase. I hope this is not the start of a trend on Substack.
Like the stock market subscribers go up and down. I don't worry about it myself. I am on WordPress too though so have two lots of figures to enjoy - or not!
How could a refuge for free exchange of ideas and information not be noticed by those who have the most to lose, from this type of activity. They will bend and poke at each and every pipe and mechanism of those platforms, counter to their desired single source of "Newspeak". They will hire and bribe their way towards that end. I am not sure that many institutions have the fortitude against these dark forces. Eventually they spring leaks and become rerouted towards the aims of the elitists. The leaks and changes are small at first then they all become a part of the same machine.
My, that was dark. It just seems to bubble up in me these days. I hope, I am wrong, but there is an obvious push towards limited hangouts for those of us who are sick and tired of the official lies. Keep up your spirits and good work. I wish I could support more people like yourself. Maybe at a later date, or, a different way.
“When finally you surrender to us, it must be of your own free will. We do not destroy the heretic because he resists us; so long as he resists us we never destroy him. We convert him, we capture his inner mind, we reshape him. We burn all evil and all illusion out of him; we bring him over to our side, not in appearance, but genuinely, heart and soul.”
How do you get the heretics to willingly surrender? I know of one way only: inculcate a profound sense of inevitability, such that the future is not open, but closed, predefined, unavoidable. Eliminate fluid chaos, and instil rigid order. In other words, convince your opponents that New Normal Nurture has totally crushed Nature. It can never do that of course, unless you accept that it can do that.
I have had the privilege of reading Chris Hedges article you linked. I found his exposition on the "traumatized" society to be a bit confusing, which I fully accept as caused by my limited capacities. However, in both the Orwell's and Hedges' description of ultimate control being the utter assimilation into the machine, is something I have a visceral, if not intellectual, understanding of. In that, I do say, there is no solution in trying to make more ties to community, when the community is 99% machine.
I think humanity resolves their slave state only as a revolutionary act. I may just be crude, but, I think that is just the product of my reaction to the very real trauma that is inflicted not just by the tyrants but more and more by the society, I am embedded within.
I think it is time to stop my dive in this direction. I has not become clear as to what role, if any, I can take, which can be tyranny proof, that will make for a better society. I assume I have been blinded and made inadequate to the task by the grinding of the machine.

Free speech is dead. They haven't buried it yet, they are still "looking for the cause of death." We know the cause of death, it's murder.
The new Twitter/X CEO said the quiet part out loud. "It's freedom of speech, not reach." You can say whatever you want, we'll just limit who can see it. You can go out on the street with a bullhorn, but we'll set the volume to 0.5, so nobody hears you.
Welcome to the new Internet.
Kind of makes me wish that everyone still had hardline phones. We could setup bulletin boards again! Dialup is fine for blogging.
Substack, like every other tech company, needs investors. Those investors also happen to be the people who like censorship. It's a vicious cycle.
I can always recall something from W. Churchill, who could always say it better than I, and now I find myself reading about Queen Boadicea, who appears to be more relevant to this issue.
Queen Boadicea: “Win the battle or perish: that is what I, a woman will do; you men can live on in slavery if that’s what you want.”
I have a feeling that most of the big media companies are switching their algorithms over to ChatGPT-style AI, which doesn't worry about accurate numbers or logical thinking. Plain old computer programs were strict and reliable about numbers. That was the whole purpose of using computers instead of paper!
I've noticed a similar weirdness in the reader numbers for my blog. Previously the various counters were consistent, so I could spot a new reader in the WordPress counter and StatCounter at the same time. Now both sets of data seem to float around in a disconnected way.

I have seen that happening often on my account, I think it's a bug. I have also had people subscribing according to my activity log but they never appear! I am hoping it's just a bug but who knows... Big brother is watching us...
I liked the post. Not because I like that you’re loosing subscribers. Maybe it’s just a case of information overload. I’ve been thinking about cutting back on my subscriptions because I don’t have time to read them all but feel guilty somehow that the author will feel insulted particularly the authors of some of the smaller stacks.

I will do what I can, the rest is bullshit.
The whole truth is likely far darker....

Ok, I'm ready... Where is your "Upgrade to paid" link?
Another subscriber just vanished. Is this how it's going to be now? So much for building a readership on Substack.

I think it is when you asked everyone to wait for the FBI/official report into the Lahaina land clearance... You might have worded it better.
It was the updated FBI report of missing persons actually. I haven't checked yet. Are over 1000 children still officially listed as missing?
