RXiP8.5 - China Tells US Climate Envoy Kerry That It Will Pursue Its Own Emissions Pathway

IPCC climate ‘science’ defines a number of Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs) which, when plugged into the climate models, supposedly realistically simulate different levels of global warming by 2100. Here they are, graphically represented:

Biden’s climate envoy, John Kerry, went to China recently to try and convince Xinping to commit to more aggressive carbon reduction measures, but the President didn’t even meet him and issued this statement:

“The pathway and means for reaching this goal, and the tempo and intensity, should be and must be determined by ourselves, and never under the sway of others,” he said in a speech Wednesday according to the official People’s Daily.

China alone contributes almost one third of total global greenhouse gas emissions and is on course to increase that share considerably in the next few decades. Basically, anything industrialised western nations do to reduce their emissions is going to be more than compensated for by China’s expansion of coal burning:

Mr. Kerry had hoped to persuade China to start reducing its carbon emissions on a faster timeline and to quickly phase out its heavy use of coal, the dirtiest fossil fuel. While the United States generates 14 percent of global carbon emissions, China is responsible for 31 percent and its pollution is increasing every year. China has said it would hit peak emissions before 2030 and stop adding carbon to the atmosphere by 2060.

The US contributes 14% and has reduced its emissions considerably. The UK contributes just 0.9%, has reduced its emissions even more dramatically and is currently gung ho on achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The UK’s net zero 2050 policy - written into law by the idiotic Theresa May at the end of her failed premiership in 2019 - is not only economically and technically unachievable - it is also totally pointless in view of what Xi Xinping has now stated, which we knew anyway, but now it’s officially confirmed.

These graphs give you some idea of what a net zero 2050 emissions pathway looks like in relation to a reference pathway where emissions continue at more or less the current level:

Net zero is blue in the bottom graph, the reference is light brown. It’s dramatic. But China is not even committing to the reference; it intends to expand its fleet of coal-fired power stations considerably in the coming decades. So in effect, China is setting its own custom designed representative concentration pathway, which probably looks a lot like RCP8.5 above - only we can now call it RXiP8.5. Meanwhile, as China ramps up its use of fossil fuels and liberalises its consumption of energy in the years to come, the UK is set on a totally pointless energy-deprived path to net zero hell - and the US under the Biden regime seems intent on following us into economic and social ruination.
