Well that’s what the left wing gutter press are portraying it as. Even Dr. Naomi Wolf is having a go at him:
My thoughts: give the man some credit for being a human being and being wrapped up emotionally in the moment and spontaneously expressing his heartfelt thanks to supporters using an entirely innocent hand gesture.
I know billionaires have a bad rep these days (I’m thinking of Lizard People like Bill Gates, George Soros, Larry Fink, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg etc.) but can we not give the richest man in the world some credit for being a human being? Perhaps not. Maybe they are all the same and maybe Musk should have known better. Perhaps, as Naomi maintains, being a worldly-wise billionaire, he should have been aware of the intricacies of meaning of different hand gestures:
I’m saying that either Musk wasn’t aware or couldn’t even be bothered to be aware of the subtle difference, because he doesn’t play by the rules that Naomi thinks he should play by. This is a man who has recently announced that he is funding the legal defence of notorious ‘far right’ thug Tommy Robinson, who is currently being held in solitary confinement on a trumped up charge of contempt of court. He does what he thinks is right and correct and is the moral thing to do and obviously doesn’t give a shit about what people think. He acts impulsively and with little regard for convention.
I think Naomi is misreading Musk. This is a man who sends the world’s tallest starships into space and who returns super-heavy rocket boosters back to earth at 4000mph, capturing them with unbelievable control, finesse and precision using mechanical arms at the surface. This is a man who is going to send men to Mars. If he sends his heart out to the nation he’s going to do it forcefully, passionately and with precise intent. So, he didn’t hold his palm up in a wishy washy ‘I love you all’ gesture; he cut the air, palm down, with a sweeping gesture. But that doesn’t make him a fascist neo-Nazi!
I just left a comment at Karen Hunt's substack:
"It's not a Nazi salute. People are failing to understand Musk, some intentionally trying to misunderstand him in order to promote their preferred scurrilous interpretation of his behaviour. I wrote about it here:
https://jaimejessop.substack.com/p/musks-nazi-salute-that-wasnt
The human race has a rich history of symbolism. The Nazis (mis)appropriated many ancient symbols, signs and gestures in order to promote their sinister ideology and to reach the masses by providing that ideology with an emotional, intellectual and intuitive connection to the deep human psyche. They weren't fools; they knew what they were doing.
So does this now mean that we should proscribe any signs, symbols or gestures which imitate or even vaguely resemble those which were co-opted by the Nazis to promote their horrific Third Reich? Does this mean that we should instantly vilify anyone caught in the act of using those signs, symbols and gestures and condemn them also as a Master Race fascist? If you believe that, if you enthusiastically endorse that, without due reflection, then I suspect that it is you who is in fact the neo-Nazi fascist in the room."
Former Lib Naomi hasn’t quite figured out that Conservatives aren’t into symbolism that isn’t related to anything other than religion. We don’t do secret society hand shakes. The rainbow which was a religious symbol has been hijacked by leftists to mean something far from biblical. It is the left that loves to divide through symbolism.
