moist, cool spring, Tons of dry grass per acre, dry summer, 80 mph wind. An arsonists dream.

Fuels, weather and topography, the three building blocks that determine all fire behavior, were in alignment for this event And once the fire was started (my educated guess is from a downed powerline) the minimal suppression resources were overwhelmed within the first hour.

Had it still been the village of Polynesians 500 years ago, it too would have been destroyed, but for the (still undetermined) source of ignition and the abundant (because of an exceptionally wet winter and spring) non-native invasive grasses covering the upwind slopes above Lahaina.

Fuels management, instead of preservation of unnatural landscapes, would not have eliminated this, but would have most certainly mitigated and greatly reduced the catastrophic results.

As to the "scientific" explanations of Hawaiian drought, when a collection of people write a many thousand word tome about not knowing the answer, the real answer is, "...we have prepared this confusing collection of stories and possibilities, so the government will continue to funnel grants our way so we don't have to have real jobs and can collect a check paid for by the unsuspecting and uncritical American tax serf...".

KISS Principal - Keep it Simple Stupid

(1) Greedy Real Estate agents

(2) Eco concern nutcases killed Maui, loving it to death, California style by covering up every square inch with Rodeo Drive gift shops, all talking about 'climate change', while shopping, driving, and Fornicating ( andy warhol quote, about what beautiful people do when not shopping or acting )

There must be a God, because this is proof, that the Hypocrites that go on endlessly about 'climate change' but zip from Maui to Davos on private jets, does this mean that davos will be the next to burn?? The vengeance of God is on the hypocrites

On the BIG Island of "Hawaii" the monster Volcano, but is there even an active volcano on or near Maui?

Maui is a volcanic island made from 2 volcanos. The East Maui volcano, known as Haleakala, had its recent eruptions between 1480 and 1600

...

My favorite island is Kauai, on north side its one of the wettest rain forests around, on the south-west end it's sahara desert with sand dunes and nothing growing. Dry as a bone;

If you're interested in volcano tourism, you'll want to head to the big island of Hawaii, which is home to Kilauea and Mauna Loa.

It is. I think a volcano erupted as recently as 2018.

All the Hawaiian islands are like this, one side dry the other side wet, usually its the North side wet, and the south-west sides dry, funny the fires in Maui were on the south-west end of the island

But the real problem is over building, MAUI has been totally over-built by rich people with their mini-mansions, too much structure and much of it elite tropical woods, which when they burn, burn like gasoline. Woods rich in oil, like teak are bombs once you get them burning, and with winds its a super-bomb

Too many people ( assholes) over-building on a very small island in the wrong place killed Maui

Perhaps if all the building in Maui were built of concrete with tile roofs there would have been no fire, but then that would not be hippy-dippy for the rich elite living in their tree-houses

Just look at Greece, its dry, and everybody has a stone house, with a tile roof, they KNOW

The cucks in Hawaii were fools, they mostly came from California, and look at the fires there, all these cracker jack track homes made of cheap 2x4 fir, go up in smoke with the slightest fire & wind.
