Tragic! Before the web, there were Usenet newsgroups which served the purpose of hosting dialog on any subject... It was decentralized, and did not suffer from censorship. There ought to be a Usenet revival of sorts.
The problem now is that there's money to be made through censorship.
In the Usenet days, nobody was going on and trying to infiltrate, and snitch on people. No money was to be made, and no points earned. The only people who would be on Usenet, were people who were never going to try and kill it.
Same for builtin boards.
Now, any Social media-type entity that gets to be "too influential" will be dealt with. Substack included.
Once Substack gets over some (to be determined) amount of interaction, as it relates to certain view points, the monetization aspect will be targeted. Guaranteed.
That's why Stripe is who nearly all of the online pay services go through. Because Stripe is likely subsidized, to make sure they are the most "attractive" clearing house. The cheapest, and with the most features.
That way when the time comes. A majority of the Internet's truth sayers can be hurt financially.
I had no use for Twitter and have none for X. The little itty bits posted are a frustratingly stupid way to present news. I don't doubt that you're unfairly shadow banned there. But your stuff requires a minimum level of intelligence and continuity of thought. Twitter is the last place I'd look for content, an echo chamber, nothing more. And same for Instagram, just the most annoying platform for anything.
Elon is just another CIA cointelpro caricature based loosely on the Iron Man character Tony Stark. He's not a real person. If you've ever known a real successful entrepreneur you'd know just one company like Tesla would be an all-consuming 24x7 ordeal.
"Elon" "bought" Twatter to bring people back to the gov't funded and run control platform. Hopefully more will see through the scam...
Anyone who thought St. Elon we going to “save free speech” (or put a man on Mars, or have a working electric semi-trailer, or sell millions of robo-taxis or cars that will drive themselves across the continent) should go line up for a free ride on the Hype-R-Loop.
I don't have an X account - I gave up my Facebook account over 10 years ago when I saw the garbage that people who I respected were posting and have shunned social media ever since (if you don't count substack!)
It seems to me that social media has been an uncontrolled sociology experiment. What it has revealed about human nature has been disconcerting and depressing. We humans are simply not up to the task of controlling our emotions and this has been amply demonstrated when we feel protected by online anonymity or remoteness.
You may be expecting too much of an individual like Musk. I don't think he is the master of this situation even though he is a powerful player. Technology has become the tail that is wagging the dog - like those who slavishly wait for pedestrian lights, we are allowing ourselves to be told what to do by computers rather than the other way round.
As someone who doesn't have an account with 'X', I have been frustrated by the new restrictions on my ability to view comments and threads on X. For a supposedly very clever chap, I am surprised by the extent to which Musk seems to be damaging his expensively acquired platform.
Yes, it's not an open platform and even if you join the merry throng in order to see what's "Happening Now", it's still not an open platform. I suspect the CIA still run the joint.
Exactly. I have the same issues on "X". I recently re-read this article from March 2023 that resonates today. It was written by a former military intelligence officer. It is a long article but I thought it was worth the time. He talks about the "disinformation" industry and what is happening with the internet, social media platforms, etc. It is a tour-de-force piece.

Have searched for you on X, to no avail. Simply presumed you ran an anonymous account to monitor only.
David, you liked my comment yesterday: "UK uninhabitable next year? Great news . . . . . "
