Why This Substack Is Changing The Language It Uses About The Climate
From now, house style guide recommends the term 'climate crisis breakdown'
In honour of the Guardian’s momentous decision 5 years ago to invent the ‘climate crisis’ and reframe the non-debate in favour of climate bedwetters, I have now invented the ‘climate crisis breakdown’. Here’s what the Graun said in 2019:
The Guardian has updated its style guide to introduce terms that more accurately describe the environmental crises facing the world.
Instead of “climate change” the preferred terms are “climate emergency, crisis or breakdown” and “global heating” is favoured over “global warming”, although the original terms are not banned.
“We want to ensure that we are being scientifically precise, while also communicating clearly with readers on this very important issue,” said the editor-in-chief, Katharine Viner. “The phrase ‘climate change’, for example, sounds rather passive and gentle when what scientists are talking about is a catastrophe for humanity.”
“Increasingly, climate scientists and organisations from the UN to the Met Office are changing their terminology, and using stronger language to describe the situation we’re in,” she said.
So, in the same spirit, and in order to more accurately reflect the science - and in particular the politics - I am now adopting the term ‘climate crisis breakdown’.
Friederike Otto of Imperial College London and WWA might want to start doing ‘climate crisis breakdown’ attribution studies from now on, linking extremely irritating events (at least, in the opinion of Guardian journalists) to the deepening ‘climate crisis breakdown’. Here’s a short list to get her going, taken direct from recent Guardian headlines (first, h/t Mark Hodgson):
‘Backsliding’: most countries to miss vital climate deadline as Cop30 nears
Doge staffers enter Noaa headquarters and incite reports of cuts and threats
Elon Musk’s journey from climate champion to backing EV-bashing Trump
Hottest January on record mystifies climate scientists
Jeff Bezos fund ends support for climate group amid fears billionaires ‘bowing down’ to Trump
I just use the term ‘climate change is natural’ and refuse to engage with lifelong leftards who have no intention of debating or listening to empirically derived science facts, they’re just regurgitating the latest fashionable Marxist lie
Nice one! How can the climate change hoax be sustained in this country in the face of such concise, uncontroversial debunking from the USA’s Secretary of Energy Chris Wright? https://x.com/MarcNixon24/status/1887214153020100950.
The Net Zero cabal seem to think that if they can somehow “get to” Net Zero by 2050, everything will be hunky dory forevermore. They apparently never stop to think how on earth they will go about replacing all their short lifespan wind turbines and solar panels when they start falling to bits and they have net zero fossil fuels and net zero heavy mining, manufacturing and transportation facilities, video here: https://x.com/wideawake_media/status/1870062259013071095.
A few phrases to counter The Graun: Net Zero is not just self-harming and self-sabotaging, it’s self-suicidal. Whether done by wilful malice (the agenda of the bought-and-paid-for Guardian) or technically-illiterate stupidity (e.g. most Lib Dem MPs), once you wreck the country’s energy infrastructure there is no going back; you have condemned the country to living in the poverty and squalor of the middle ages with a very much reduced population.
