I’m so sorry to have to present you with these ghastly apparitions of Climate Change Past and Present, whilst leaving you to fearfully contemplate the Ghost of Climate Future. The solid blue dot at the far right of the second graph is where we are right now. The large spikes are naturally occurring Pacific El Nino events. I know seeing this will reduce my readers to quivering lumps of jelly, but I am obliged to tell the truth on my Substack, to communicate science and hard data, whatever the implications.
Since global warming really took off in 1979 (after having taken a break from the 1940s to the 1970s, when global cooling happened and we were all being warned about an imminent Ice Age), the world has literally been baked - the globally averaged temperature of the lower atmosphere as measured by satellites (the most reliable indicator of global mean temperature) has increased by a stunning 0.6 degrees Celsius! If the trend of 0.13 C per decade continues, this means that by 2100, the world will be 1.04C hotter than it is now and just over 2C hotter than it was in 1850. Scary, huh? Not quite as scary as the 4C to 6C global warming predicted by many of the climate models though. In fact, the world hasn’t warmed at all since 2015, despite record-breaking CO2 emissions mainly from China and steadily increasing atmospheric CO2 concentrations.
So that’s not very scary either.
In fact, those graphs aren’t very scary at all. But you knew that. So that’s why the climate crisis fanatics have switched to trying to scare us all with bad weather instead, including cold weather. That’s not working out too well either. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.
Attenborough and the other climate cultists should shove his hockey stick model in their collective nether regions.
I remember being told in public school in the 70's of the imminent Ice Age. It was not used as a tool of terror though tied to political power. Here's a great video of Leonard Nemoy (Spock) in classic 70's climate bullshit from "experts": https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7tAYXQPWdC0
