I rather think that such an event would entail cancelling convection, thermohaline circulation and the Coriolis effect.

But there again, I'm not a "Climate Scientist", merely a retired engineer, so what would I know!

My rule of thumb is : If it’s in the Guardian, it’s.... ....

If it were to happen, the earth would have stopped spinning. I think adaptation to cold weather would be the least of our problems.in fact we wouldn’t be here to have any problems.
