Here We Go Again: Mass Coral Bleaching Scam Part 5 - This Time We've Reached The 'Tipping Point'!
Rahmstorf is obsessed with ‘tipping points’ especially his pet favourite the AMOC shutdown tipping point. He’s got this post pinned to the top of his X account:
The ‘headlines’ mentioned were of course the usual ‘OMG, the Gulf Stream is going to shut down!’, which alarmist trope has been aired ad nauseum by ‘scientists’ and the mainstream media for the last few decades, on average about two or three times a year:
Catastrophic Arctic ice melt and disappearing polar bears is probably the favourite climate alarmist trope of all time, closely followed by ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ AMOC shutdown nonsense. But the alleged imminent extinction of coral reefs definitely gains a Bronze medal third place. ‘Scientist’ Terry Hughes has been at the vanguard of ‘research’ into this and I wrote about his efforts in 2018 to convince us all that coral reefs were headed towards extinction because of repeated bouts of bleaching:
Amazingly, by summer last year, all that ‘dead’ coral on its way to being permanently extinctified by nasty horrible man-made global warming, had recovered and even reached record extent:
Coral at the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) faces another year of exile from the climate scare headlines with news that the record levels reported in 2021-22 have been sustained in the latest annual period to May 2023. A small drop in the three main areas of the reef was well within margin of error territory, with the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) reporting that regional average hard coral cover in 2022-2023 was similar to last year at 35.7%. Most reefs underwent little change during the year.
Coral at the reef has been bouncing back sharply for a number of years, with a record 36-year high reported in 2022. But the news of this spectacular recovery has been largely ignored in most media since it had previously been a go-to poster scare story for collectivist Net Zero promoters. But connecting the fate of tropical corals to global warming was always a difficult ask since they grow in waters between 24-32°C. Short boosts in local temperatures can cause temporary bleaching, but it is scientifically impossible to pin it on human-caused climate change, although pseudoscientific ‘attribution’ computer models try very hard.
In the latest year, there was a short local temperature rise, but little bleaching was reported during the 2023 summer. No cyclones hit the reef and crown-of thorns starfish attacks were limited. Nevertheless, natural stresses will always affect the eco-system and AIMS states that these paused the growth of hard coral on some of the reefs.
Alas, with the current record high global ocean temperatures almost certainly due to a combination of a spike in the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation, the Hunga Tonga eruption and El Nino (with probably Hunga Tonga playing the major role), temporary coral bleaching has returned and ‘scientists’ are once again leaping at the opportunity to claim it’s the ‘end of the world as we know it’ (unless we embrace Net Zero mud hut-dwelling) with renewed gusto. Hence fraudster Terry Hughes at the Conversation:
This latest, still-unfolding event was entirely predictable, as ocean temperatures continue to rise due to global heating.
Three of the seven mass bleaching events so far on the Great Barrier Reef coincided with El Niño conditions (1998, 2016 and this summer), and the remaining four did not. Increasingly, climate-driven coral bleaching and death is happening regardless of whether we are in an El Niño or La Niña phase. Average tropical sea surface temperatures are already warmer today under La Niña conditions than they were during El Niño events only three or four decades ago.
As pointed out by a commenter on my Cliscep article in 2018, Hughes’ own work demonstrates that there is no correlation between increasing global sea surface temperature and mass bleaching events, but a high correlation between El Ninos and such events!
Yet here he is again, claiming that the ‘fifth mass bleaching event’ caused by Hunga Tonga/El Nino/AMO is due to global warming and we’ve got Stefan Rahmstorf retweeting his fraudulent nonsense, claiming further that we have reached the dreaded ‘coral extinction tipping point’. Political activists plugging the collectivist Net Zero 2030 Agenda masquerading as ‘scientists’.
Qld Senator Rennick in Parliament March 21st spoke about coral bleaching, the lack of scientific data, etc.
Clearly the take away is El Nini is a racist, white supremacist bleaching all those coloured corals!
