The recent Guardian article which I covered here appears to have been inspired by this piece written in April:
In a survey of 468 scientists around the world working on climate topics, we found online abuse is common, and for many takes a mental and physical toll that inhibits climate discourse. Yet there are ways to stem it. Most abuse took place on Twitter and Facebook, platforms that can instead make reforms to protect scientists and enable informed publics and responsive climate action.
Note on sampling: In late 2022 we contacted climate scientists and experts via publicly available lists and asked them to complete an online survey hosted by YouGov. The responses are based on natural fallout, meaning anyone invited could complete the survey. Of the 468 that completed the survey, 183 said that they have experienced online harassment or abuse, with effects on health, work, and communication.
They’re not happy that ‘scientists’ are getting aggressively challenged by the public on their BS, so they want more online censorship. But it seems they chose to actually illustrate the personal experiences of just a handful of scientists and they chose to concentrate on one in particular - Professor Mark Maslin of UCL. This is what he has to put up with on Twitter. Terrible, I’m sure you’ll agree (sarc). But if you look at some of the pseudoscientific, eco-Marxist rubbish which he posts quite regularly, you might understand the response from a thoroughly pissed off public who are starting feel the heat from insane Net Zero policies, rather more than they are feeling the heat from the alleged ‘climate crisis’.
These tweets are presented as examples of abuse:
These tweets might justifiably be called abuse:
A ‘fairy tale about the bad weather’ is not abuse. But if you want an example of real abusive language, maybe we should get the Pogues to rewrite ‘A Fairytale of New York’, just for Maslin, and call it ‘A Fairy Tale of Bad Weather’ where Mark gets into conversation on Twitter with a climate sceptic around Christmas time:
You're a bum, you're a punk
You're an old slut on junk
Lying, and off your head
Telling tales of climate dread
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas, your arse
I pray God it's our last
Now THAT is abuse!
Glad to see people start flipping these people like pancakes. I am too damn tired of my hippie friends trying to save the Earth while listening to NPR sniveling about climate crisis. For over 20years ice caps melting, polar bears dying, oceans rising, Al gore flies in lear jet alarming people about the crisis. The DAVOS crowd parks their lear jets to discuss war on carbon. Stop already before I shove a bud light can down your throat then cover it with a mask so you can pretend your safe from all viruses and idiots like me who find your climate crisis Bull Shit
Climate alarmists (including politicians) only get away with spouting their made-up propaganda because they never debate publicly and their bought-and-paid-for MSM co-conspirators never facilitate fair and balanced public debate and (most of the time) suppress any facts which run counter to the official climate change narrative.
It is ridiculous that these people should attack Musk just because he lifted censorship on Twitter. In what sort of twisted society should censorship be the norm?
It reminds me of how I was barred from commenting on The Guardian twenty or more years ago just for posting comments which went against the official narrative.
